Baby Macaque Takes a Fall, Then Settles Back Down

A baby macaque falls from a tree and lands among a bed of dry leaves on the forest floor. It’s a hard moment to watch, but the little one gradually quiets down, and the footage follows what happens around it.

This clip comes from Love Monkey, a channel that films the daily lives of wild macaques — the climbing, the crying, the napping, and the small dramas that come with growing up in a troop. This particular video centers on one of the tougher moments: a young macaque losing its grip high in the branches and tumbling down into a pile of fallen leaves.

What does the footage show?

Earlier in the video, a baby macaque is seen perched carefully on a thin branch, gripping tight with small hands and peering out from under a mop of dark hair. Macaque infants spend much of their first weeks clinging to branches or to their mothers, testing their balance long before they’re sure-footed.

After the fall, the baby is shown lying curled among the leaves, clearly shaken but moving. The surrounding greenery and dappled light suggest a warm, forested setting typical of the troop’s home range, a mix of trees and ground cover where macaques forage and rest through the day.

What else happens in the video?

The footage also catches quieter scenes from the same troop. An adult macaque is seen in a tree eating a banana, holding it in both hands the way a house cat might hold a toy between its paws. Later, another macaque sits on a carved stone structure, picking at something small, a reminder that these animals often live close to human settlements and historic sites.

Together, the scenes offer a glimpse of ordinary troop life — climbing, eating, falling, and recovering — all part of the everyday rhythm the channel tries to capture.
