A Newborn Monkey’s Cry for a Late Bottle

A Newborn Monkey's Cry for a Late Bottle

A newborn monkey, thin enough that his ribs show clearly through his skin, lies on his back crying with his arms thrown up over his head. His bottle is late, and he lets everyone around him know it. That cry is the whole story of this footage: a tiny, skinny baby waiting on his milk.

Why is the newborn monkey crying?

In the opening shot, he’s wrapped in little mittens and a diaper on a soft brown towel, mouth open, eyes wet, clearly unhappy. He’s small enough to fit easily in two cupped hands, with a body about the size of a house cat’s paw-to-tail stretch, and at this stage every rib and knuckle is visible under his thin fur.

Earlier footage shows him curled on his side on the same towel, limbs drawn in, looking frail and still finding his strength. Newborn primates like this one depend completely on frequent feeding, so a delay is enough to set off real distress.

What happens when the milk arrives?

Relief comes fast. In one clip, a caregiver’s hand steadies him in his striped sleeve while he finally gets a bottle, gripping it with both hands as he feeds.

By the later footage, he looks steadier, moving around on the towel near another small monkey, both of them dressed in soft wraps. The panic of the empty-bottle moment has passed, replaced by the ordinary business of a baby animal getting stronger with each feeding.

A fragile start

This short video captures something simple but real: how urgently a newborn depends on timing, and how quickly a late meal turns into a full-blown cry for help.
