A baby macaque gets snatched up by another monkey and struggles hard to wriggle free in this footage, filmed among a troop of Asian macaques living wild in the forest. The clip follows the infant through that tense grab, a quieter moment up in the trees, and finally back into the arms of an adult who cradles it against her chest.

Macaques are a group of monkeys found across parts of Asia, often living in troops on the ground and in the trees near forest edges. Infants stay close to their mothers for protection, which is what makes a scene like this one stand out — a baby suddenly pulled away from that safety net.

Early on, an adult monkey reaches down and grabs the infant by the tail while it’s on the ground, and the little one twists and pulls to try to get loose. It’s a rough handful of seconds, the kind of scuffle that plays out fast among a troop where bigger monkeys don’t always treat the youngest ones gently.

Later, the footage shows a young macaque sitting alone in the fork of a tree branch, several feet off the ground, looking down and appearing unsettled. Being up in a tree away from an adult is exactly where a baby this size doesn’t want to be for long.

Does the baby monkey get back to safety?

By the end, calm returns. An adult female is seen sitting on bare, leaf-strewn ground with the baby pulled in close against her body, one arm wrapped around it in a protective hold. After the earlier struggle, it’s a small, quiet moment that reads as relief.

Scenes like this are part of what makes troop life complicated to watch — infants are vulnerable not just to predators or falls, but sometimes to the other monkeys around them.
